Pet Portraits - Bolin and Asami

 Morning Everyone!

Sorry for being a bit quiet on here recently!
I've been meaning to share this commission with you all for a while but work has been getting in the way. But, I assure you, it's worth the wait!

I don't know if any of you recall a themed pet portrait I did waaaaaaay back in 2017!!?
I was commissioned by our pal Tom Curry to draw his friend's pet cats; Mako and Bolin, as their Fire and Earthbending namesakes from the Legend of Korra, sequel series to Avatar the Last Airbender.
Okay, it was 4 years ago. I won't blame you if you don't remember, so click right here to check it out!

So 4 years later (having binged all of Avatar the Last Airbender during Lockdown, and now currently watching Legend of Korra myself!) I was approached by Tom's friend to draw an updated portrait of their Avatar cats!
Now I'm all clued up on the lore I was so psyched to have another go at drawing these guys! Sadly I learnt that poor Mako passed away, however Bolin is not on his own as little Asami has joined the family.
Without further ado; here's your boy Bolin, showing off his Earthbending skill, and introducing Asami for the first time, with her lightning gauntlet!

This portrait is A4 landscape and coloured using Copic Markers!

Do you have a pet named after your favourite fictional character or person? Would you like to see them drawn as their namesake? Get in touch and I could draw a portrait like this for you!

Christmas Commissions! Miley Pup - Pet Portrait

 Hey Everyone!

I've got yet another pet portrait to share with you today, but with a difference!
This pet portrait is a caricature!

Yup, I got an excuse to get my copic markers out and work my anthro magic on this gorgeous little cockapoo pup!
Good friend and avid supporter of my comic series; MULP: Sceptre of the Sun, Jeremy Briggs has commissioned me for caricatured pet and themed portraits in the past, and in the run up to Christmas he asked that I draw his sister's puppy Miley, after her namesake Miley Cyrus on, you guessed it, a wrecking ball!

So without further ado, here she is!

This portrait is A4 in size, and as mentioned, coloured using Copic Markers!
This was such a fun piece to draw! Thank you Jeremey and I'm glad to hear your sister and the kids liked it (even if it did take some explaining to Grandma!)

If you would like to see your pet drawn as the person or character they are named after, then please get in touch!

Themed Portraits - The Croods!

Morning Everyone!

Today I'm sharing a commission that was very fun to do, and gave me an opportunity to use pretty much every copic marker colour I own!

Mike, Molly and their girls are big fans of the Dreamworks animated film; the Croods! So here we have probably the most colourful themed portrait I've done to date!

This caricatured family portrait is A3 in size and coloured using Copic Markers.

Themed Portraits - Iron Man and Sleeping Beauty

Hey Everyone!

I hope that all of you are keeping yourselves safe and sane during this unprecedented time!
While the country is on lockdown, I plan to use my new found spare time to pick up an old project I regretfully put aside for longer than I anticipated.
Hopefully I can keep myself motivated throughout this madness to come out with something exciting to show you on the other side! *fingers crossed!*

For now though I've something very special to share with you!

Even through all this doom and gloom, we must remember that the world ticks on and there is still love and joy to be found every day! So, today I'd like to wish two people a very Happy Birthday!
Twins, Klay and Imogen are 4 today!!

Here they are as their favourite Disney and Marvel characters; Iron Man and Sleeping Beauty commissioned by Nanny Pen!

Though I imagine you two aren't spending your birthdays how you had planned, I hope that you both have an amazing day doing all the things you love at home with Mum and Dad!

This commission is A4 in size and coloured using Copic Markers.

Do you know a small person who would love to see themselves as their favourite character like these two!? Just drop me a message to make it happen!

Cheesy Love - Valentine's Themed portrait

Morning Everyone!

I mentioned previously that I had a few commissions waiting to be shared, well now that the day of romance has been and gone, I can finally post this Valentine's pic full of puns!

These two anthropomorphised characters featured on this blog for a Valentine's illustration last year! (see it here) Now a year later, Giraffe and Otter make another appearance sharing another of their favourite pursuits; Cheese and Wine!

The brief included the use of the phrase "I Camembert to Brie without you" while the characters are covered in cheese fondue!
No, I don't think it can get any Feta than this!
Its a Gouda thing they asked someone who loves cheese puns to make this Grate work of art!
Emmental ya, these two were made for each other!
(okay that's enough..)

Happy Valentines you crazy pair!!

This commission is A5 in size and coloured using Copic Markers!

Do you have an animal character you'd like to see re-created in an illustration like this, then get in touch!!

I've yet another Christmas commission to share today, but this one is rather unique!

Hong Kong Couple - Watercolour/Pen and Ink Portrait

Good Morning you lot!

A few things have been going on in the world of MULP since my last post and I've been making regular art posts on Instagram and Twitter in preparation for Inktober which starts today!!

I'll be sure to update any readers of this blog on the details for each of those in the coming weeks with full posts of their own, but in the mean time why don't you give those accounts a like/follow to stay up to date with current progress!

Today though, I'd like to share a new portrait I was commissioned to produce as an anniversary present to a very special couple and good friends of mine, who celebrated their 8 year anniversary on 27th September!
Lewis and Beth here have special ties to Hong Kong, so I've given this portrait a bit of a Chinese flavour to the composition by dropping in the city skyline, a border of lanterns and the iconic silhouette of a Junk.

Congrats again guys!!

This Portrait is A4 landscape in size, inked with pen and ink, and then coloured using watercolour paints.

Do you know a couple celebrating an anniversary or a marriage? Get in touch and gift them some original art! sara-dunkerton@hotmail.com

Themed Portrait - Now and Forever

Morning All!

I've got another portrait commission for you today with a rather familiar theme!
Harkening back to my first blog post of the year, this bookends my current run of commissions quite nicely.

Yes, its another Nightmare Before Christmas themed portrait for another newlywed couple!
Dearest friends Dawn and Mark, who are also fans of the Tim Burton film, it's as plain as anyone can see you guys were simply meant to be! I hope you both like it!

This commission is A4 portrait in size and coloured using Copic Markers.

Are there any more NBC fans our there? Would you like to see yourselves as you favourite characters? Just drop me an email: sara-dunkerton@hotmail.com

Themed Portrait - Cheers

For Valentine's day this year I was commissioned to do this really fun piece!

For those of you who aren't familiar with my other work, here's some context to explain the idea behind this commission. So along with MULP: Sceptre of the Sun, an anthropomorphic pulp adventure comic published by Improper Books, I also illustrate a semi-autobiographical comic which was also anthropomorphised! This comic is called Paws for Thawt!

Paws for Thawt is a slice of life comic, taking scenes and moments I've experienced with people I know but casting them as animal characters! It became quite a fun exercise to cast my friends and family as animals that best suit their personalities and a good few people joined in the fun!

Including Malwina and Ben! Here we see them as their chosen anthropomorphised characters, an Otter and a Giraffe, toasting each other with their favourite beverages at a swanky bar.

This commission is A4 portrait in size and coloured using Copic Markers.

If you'd like to learn more about my other work mentioned in this post you can check out MULP: Sceptre of the Sun here where you can read free previews of each issue: mulpcomic.com
and you can read all of Paws for Thawt here: pawsforthawt.tumblr.com

If this has inspired you to join in and cast yourself as an animal that suits your personality, get in touch and I can make it happen! sara-dunkerton@hotmail.com

Themed Portrait - Simply Meant to Be

To say I've fallen behind in keeping this blog updated over the last 6 months or so is an understatement, and definitely something I'm going to try and get back into the habit of making time for!
My most sincerest of apologies to anyone who looks for these posts and updates. Catching up with the workload after the house buy and the move has given me quite a backlog of bloggable material, so I hope I can make it up to you all with posts to come!

This first one being a Themed Portrait from last year. Commissioned as a wedding present to a lovely couple who are fans of The Nightmare Before Christmas!
Josh and Kirsty, may they live like Jack and Sally now and forever!

This commission is A4 portrait in size and coloured using Copic Markers.

~ BACK FROM THE DEAD! ~ : Themed Portraits - Disney Wonderland

Hey everyone, I'M ALIVE!!

I'm currently typing to you from my brand new studio, in my brand new house, in a brand new county!

Yep, I've had a lot going on in the last few months and I do hope that it excuses my rather extended hiatus in posting on this old blog.

Since you last heard from me, my partner and I have completed the purchase of our first house! We are homeowners!! We've been busy decorating, moving and making the place our own. I'm no longer based in Bristol either! We've relocated to the sunny seaside town of Weston-Super-Mare, where I not only have the beach on my doorstep, but also woodlands behind our house and fantastic views of the countryside from my window, plenty of inspiration to get the creative juices flowing. If that wasn't enough change, I also changed jobs and I celebrated a milestone birthday! PHEW!

It's been a hectic few months, typically once things had started to settle and I was able to resume my creative work, what should happen? My Laptop decided to pack up! Thankfully I was able to get it repaired within a reasonable timeframe and projects weren't delayed much further!

So to celebrate my return creative form (finally) I thought I'd start by posting up some long awaited commissions.

Here to kick things off is a fun Disney themed portrait commissioned as a birthday present for Chloe, who is a Disney Princess in her own right. Here she is hanging out with her favourite characters, whom she got to meet at Disneyland a couple weeks after!

This portrait is A4 landscape, and coloured using Copic Markers.

I've got a few more commissions to share, so stay posted!
If you know someone who is as big a Disney fan as Chloe, then drop me a message for a personalised portrait like this!

These were requested as Christmas presents and so to avoid spoiling any surprises I've waited until now to share them.

So in the first post of 2018 let me share with you one of a pair of themed portraits done for two brothers that are huge Disney fans.

This is Charlie as Woody from Toy Story!

This commission is A4 in size and coloured using Copic Markers.

Themed Portrait - Rory and Arlo

Morning Everyone!

I've another portrait commission to share with you all!
Similar to a previous portrait done quite recently, this one is for a little boy who loves dinosaurs.
Little Rory's favourite film is The Good Dinosaur, so I have drawn him in a slightly caricatured style with the main character Arlo.

This portrait is A4 in size and coloured using Copic Markers.

If you know someone who would love a portrait of themselves with their favourite cartoon character just drop me an email: sara-dunkerton@hotmail.com

Themed Portraits - Bunny Chariot

The summer commissions are rolling in and here's another one that I can now share with you!

John, Rose and their pets have regularly featured on this blog, this time John commissioned a portrait of Rose for their 1st year wedding anniversary, only with a slight unexpected twist!

John wanted Rose dressed in elven armour with a bow, riding a chariot drawn by their lionhead rabbits Mufasa and Sarabi! So, y'know I was happy to oblige this rather bad ass anniversary portrait request.

Happy Anniversary you two!!

This commission is A3 in size and coloured using Copic Markers.

If you know anyone celebrating an anniversary who would like a piece of original art to commemorate the occasion, then please get in touch: sara-dunkerton@hotmail.com
