Dark Harvest : Resistance PUBLISHED!!

Something very special arrived in the post Friday morning. Apologies for not being able to show you all until now, but here it is!!!

Dark Harvest: the Legacy of Frankenstein - Resistance, all printed, published and pretty! :D

Right at the beginning of this book the Resistance comic I illustrated kicks off an introduction into the themes and tone of Dark Harvest, to refresh those returning to the RPG after the 1st book, and enlighten any newcomers.

Following the comic you'll encounter various single illustrations, four of which are mine, nestled amongst the text. Thats something I really like about this book, the page layouts are very well thought through and each page treats the eye with something. Be it an old paper scroll inset, annotations to the illustrations, or the subheadings in a different font to break up the text.

Then towards the end of the book the winning characters of the Create a Character competition are presented alongside the pencil illustrations I provided.

To be able to finally hold so many months worth of hard work and anticipation in my hands is astounding! I am so overwhelmed by how well the whole book has come together, it's such a joy to be able to flick through and not only encounter my own work, but that of others also, and see how each complements the subject and aesthetic of each page!

I'm so chuffed, not only am I now a thrice published illustrator, with this wonderful book to add to my portfolio, but I've also learnt many valuable skills and made firm friends on the way. 

Iain, I'm very much looking forward to the next time we work together! :D

Doctor Who: The Impossible Crossing - sneak peek!

Hey there Whovians!

It's time you had another sneaky peek at issue one of The Impossible Crossing and I've got a special panel to show you today, it's possibly my favourite panel out of the entire issue!
It was SO fun to draw, when you see it you'll defiantly see why!

Cut Capers Commission - progress

In the last post I showed you some roughs for a CD cover commission I'm doing for Bristol band, Cut Capers!
Things have progressed nicely since then, and I thought I'd share a couple things with you.

Below is the pencilled outline and then the illustration shaded with pencil tones.

The next step is to take this pencil shaded illustration into photoshop and enhance the rendering,  add highlights, the rain and early morning mists. Then finally I'll add in the all important text!

Cut Capers CD cover Commission

The other week I was contacted by the lovely Nick Van Tinteren, guitarist for the Bristol Hip Hop/Ska band; Cut Capers, with a request to do an illustration for the cover of their Single Pinstripe Tux!

He had seen one of my Illustrations for Dark Harvest (which you can see in this post) and wanted a similar feel for the cover of their Single.

I happily obliged and below is a developed rough pencil sketch of the final composition.

I also went ahead and quickly mocked up some text for the cover. The font, position and style will be discussed and refined for the final illustration.

Doctor Who: The Impossible Crossing - Issue 1 sneak peek!!

Hey there Whovians!!

Progress with Issue one of Doctor Who: The Impossible Crossing is steaming along!
I've 8 pages left to pencil and ink, then I'll be lettering and colouring all 17 pages (the 1st 5 pages of course are the Prologue that's already been uploaded!)

So anyway, I thought it was high time you all had a sneaky peek at something new and what a better place to start than Panel 1 of Page 6!

From now on I'll be showing you a few behind the scenes snippets from the actual issue, so stay tuned for another sneak peek!

My work on display at the Canada Place Trail Exhibit, Vancouver!!

Back in February I had a surprise email regarding a couple of Illustrations from my 3rd year at the University of the West of England, Bristol.

Someone wanted to purchase the right to use these two illustrations in an outdoor educational display in Vancouver, Canada!

The Illustrations in question were these shown below:

This one depicts John Cabot landing on the beach of Newfoundland, having set sail in the Matthew from Bristol.

And this one depicts a tribe of Native Americans viewing the previous scene from the surrounding mountains.

These Illustrations were originally conceptual pieces for and idea I had for a werewolf comic set in the 1700's, when the British came to colonise America. You can find the original posts for these images on my blog here and here.

I spent my 3rd year at uni developing the story and aesthetic for this comic, but have since had to put it's production on hold with the intent of picking it up in the future... However you can view all the work I did towards it right here.

Right now the Canadian Trail exhibit is open free to the public and has received a lot of interest from tourists to Vancouver!

I am told that there are up to 3 cruise ship sailings a week, transporting approx 5-6,000 people, not including the other visitors walking through the exhibit, so it's anticipated to draw plenty of attention!

On the outdoor promenade there are benches highlighting different topics of Canada. These benches have graphic panels that tells the story relating to that topic. My Illustrations are on a graphic panel for 

their history station! The display itself is scheduled to remain up and open to the public for 3-5 years!!!

My contact and the Canada Place corporation was kind enough to take a few photos of my work in the display and of the Exhibit as a whole!
